Who are Depeche Mode?
Depeche Mode are an British electronic three-piece band that formed in Basildon, Essex in the United Kingdom. They are made up of Dave Gahan, who is the lead vocalist; Martin Gore who plays the guitar, keyboard, sings vocals; and Andy Fletcher, who plays the keyboards. Originally, the band was made up of four members, however after the release of their debut album, Speak & Spell in 1981, Vince Clarke left leaving the band as a trio. Later in 1982, Alan Wilder joined the band to replace Vince Clarke, making Depeche Mode a band of four members until 1995 when Alan Wilder left. The band continued as a trio for the next 13 years.

Music career
In the late 1980s, the mainstream electronic music scene became dominated by the band with the release of their two albums, Black Celebration and Music for the Masses. Their success continued with the release of more albums. However in 1993, the band started the Devotional Tour that caused in tensions within the band, ending in Alan Wilder quitting in 1995. The band received intense media attention with fans speculating that they were splitting up. In 1997, during the making of yet another album, Dave Gahan was at the height of his near-fatal drug abuse, Martin Gore was struggling with alcoholism and seizures, and Andy Fletcher was suffering from depression.
Despite all of this, the band released the album Exciter, confirming that the band were not intending on splitting and subsequently they made another tour. This was their first tour that supported an album since their Devotional Tour eight years previously.
Success
Depeche Mode have become one of the most successful bands over the past four decades and have released a total of 14 studio albums, 10 compilation albums, six live albums, eight box sets, 13 video albums, 71 music videos and 54 singles. Over their career, Depeche Mode have managed to achieve 50 UK chart hits and 17 Top 10 albums in the UK charts, selling over 100 million records worldwide. The album Songs of Faith and Devotion was also number 1 in the UK and US at the same time, making them one of only 11 acts to do so. Additionally, every UK album they have released has been in the UK Top 10 and their albums have been in the UK charts for over 210 weeks.

They have also supported less well-known charities, such as the Small Steps Project. This project is a humanitarian organisation based in the United Kingdom which aims to help economically disadvantaged children get into education. They also joined forces with Hublot to support Charity: Water, who aim to provide clean drinking water in developing countries, as well as hosting a Gala with Hublot, which raised $1.4 million for the charity.
