Where to stay in Barcelona for a weekend break?
- Ciutat Vella. For weekend breaks to Barcelona, having a central apartment in Barcelona is the most convenient way to be close to everything. Ciutat Vella is a reasonably short walk from the beach and has places to see dating as far back as the Roman era. This district includes neighbourhoods like Raval, Barceloneta, Gothic Quarter, and Ribera; all with countless restaurants, bars, and stores.
- Eixample. This district is the birthplace of Catalan Modernist architecture, made famous by Antoni Gaudí. It's not as central as Ciutat Vella, but you can normally always get a flat rental close to the Sagrada Familia for short breaks, with plenty of sights nearby to see within a weekend. If you still prefer to be in the centre, you can stay close to Plaça de Catalunya. This district is very big after all.
- Gràcia. Not that central, but very authentic, staying in Gràcia offers visitors an authentic feel of the city upon arrival. Its squares with terraces are perfect to enjoy a drink on and the quaint locally owned shops offer original souvenirs. It's very well connected with the rest of the city and you can get to the centre within 20 minutes using public transport. This area is generally cheaper to stay in than central areas, so it's ideal if you want to experience the authentic city during cheap weekend breaks to Barcelona.
